Extending AGM Contraction to Arbitrary Logics
نویسندگان
چکیده
Classic entrenchment-based contraction is not applicable to many useful logics, such as description logics. This is because the semantic construction refers to arbitrary disjunctions of formulas, while many logics do not fully support disjunction. In this paper, we present a new entrenchment-based contraction which does not rely on any logical connectives except conjunction. This contraction is applicable to most fragments of propositional and firstorder logic that support conjunction. We provide a representation theorem for the contraction which shows that it it satisfies all the AGM postulates except for the controversial Recovery Postulate, and is a natural generalisation of entrenchment-based contraction.

Belief Change in Arbitrary Logics
The problem of belief change refers to the updating of a Knowledge Base (KB) in the face of new, possibly contradictory information. The AGM theory, introduced in [1], is the dominating paradigm in the area of belief change. Unfortunately, the assumptions made by the authors of [1] in the formulation of their theory restrict its use to a specific class of logics. In this work, we investigate th...

متن کاملBelief Contraction in the Description Logic EL
In this paper, we propose a service for contracting axioms from ontologies based on the description logic EL. In particular, we devise algorithms that implement the contraction operation of the AGM theory on belief change. We first generalise the AGM contraction postulates to description logics, in which a variant of the recovery postulate is defined by using the notion of logical difference. P...
متن کاملAGM Contraction and Revision of Rules
In this paper we study AGM contraction and revision of rules using input/output logical theories. We replace propositional formulas in the AGM framework of theory change by pairs of propositional formulas, representing the rule based character of theories, and we replace the classical consequence operator Cn by an input/output logic. The results in this paper suggest that, in general, results f...
متن کاملBelief Contraction in Web-Ontology Languages
Previous works have shown that the AGM theory cannot be used as the basis for defining contraction operators for several ontology representation languages. In this paper, we examine the postulate of relevance which has been proposed in the belief revision literature as a more intuitive alternative to the AGM postulate of recovery. Even though relevance and recovery have been proven to be equiva...
